Kirsten West is an international chef and cooking instructor who has studied Mexican cuisine for more than 25 years. She cultivated her love for Mexican cuisine through her 20-year friendship with Diane Kennedy, known as the “Julia Child of Mexico,” her eight years of collaboration with Chef Rick Bayless (Mexico One Plate at a Time/PBS), who is considered the foremost expert on authentic Mexican cuisine in the US, and her 50-plus years of studying, exploring and fine-tuning Mexican recipes.
Among the thousands of people that Kirsten West has introduced to true Mexican cuisine is none other than Mike Jagger, for whom she served as personal chef for four years. Today Kirsten lives full-time in San Miguel Allende, where she runs her own cooking school, La Piña Azul.
Those lucky enough to have taken her cooking classes rave about them, giving them an all-five-star review on TripAdvisor, touting Kirsten as “a wealth of knowledge and stories. Every dish, every ingredient, every technique was accompanied by a fascinating back story;” remarking that “we had never tasted anything like her Mexican food, each bite was a party in your mouth”; and pronouncing her cooking classes as “extremely rich and deeply rewarding. Highly highly recommend.”
When not leading cooking classes, Kirsten travels all over Mexico, researching and discovering new techniques and food combinations. Don’t miss this opportunity to learn how to combine the organic abundance of the Ranch’s farm with authentic Mexican cuisine.
Chef Kirsten offers three hands-on culinary experiences, 3.5 hours each, during which you will enjoy preparing your own meal along with fellow cooks. Classes take place at La Cocina Que Canta, our culinary center on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday at 4pm. For more information and registration, please click here.
